29 PALMS ROTARY INITIATES A
SENIORS TO SENIORS PROGRAM WITH PALMS N’ PAWS SHELTER Local senior citizens of 29 Palms will now have the opportunity to adopt a senior dog or cat, and the 29 Palms Rotary will provide the majority of the adoption fee. At last week’s Rotary meeting, Shelter Director Rick Boyd received a check totaling $2,150 to initiate this program. Before any dog is adopted, it must be spayed or neutered, vaccinated against Boardatella, Rabies, Parvo and Distemper, and microchipped. An adoption also includes a free health examination at the VCA Animal Hospital, and a complimentary grooming at 29 Palms Paws. The adoption fee that covers all this comes to $297.00. A qualifying senior citizen 65 years or older will only have to pay $35.00 to adopt a dog that is six years or older, or $31 for a cat 6 years or older. Families often choose younger animals to adopt, leaving the older ones needing a home. “This is a win/win program, giving older folks an opportunity to get a companion pet and providing a caring home for an older animal,” said Liz Meyer, outgoing President of the local Rotary Club. President Meyer initiated this project, collecting funds for the past year. Visit the Palms-N-Paws website HERE.
